SOMETIMES THE BEST IDEAS come about when you're out of the office. That's what happened in Miami during Art Basel, when I conceived a collaboration with my wildly entertaining dining companion, the artist Takashi Murakami. Executive Editor Laura Brown mobilized with Galerie Perrotin to commission a series of Murakami designer portraits—a perfect fit given his eye for fashion. The resulting images of Marc Jacobs, Nicolas Ghesquière, Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace, and Raf Simons are just as vibrant as the artist himself.
