America’s first fashion magazine debuted on November 2, 1867, with a mission to provide style-conscious women with the latest “fashion, pleasure, and instruction.” A century and a half later, Harper’s Bazaar’s essential DNA remains mostly unchanged. Our founding editor, Mary Louise Booth, who, incidentally spoke seven languages, was also an early champion of equal rights for women. It was with her pioneering spirit in mind that we invited Angelina Jolie to grace the cover of our special 150th-anniversary issue (complete with a glittering gold logo for select editions, courtesy of our friends at Cartier).
