Something about Marc Jacobs has always represented the dream of fashion to me. I remember sneaking into one of his shows at the Puck Building in New York when I started out as an assistant. I always loved going to his old store on Mercer Street, which seemed like the epicenter of cool. I couldn’t afford much, but everything about it—from the cast of characters who worked there to the people who passed through—just seemed like a world I wanted to be a part of. And the clothes! The clothes were dreamy. One of my early splurges was a red cashmere hat—a luxe version of Jacques Cousteau’s signature beanie. To this day, I still wear that hat.
