Nissan Invades Britain
The British car industry, wracked by high costs and low sales, will now have to contend with a newcomer, Nissan, and its efficient business practices. The Japanese firm hopes its Sunderland, England-based factory will develop into a full-scale operation building 100,000 units a year with 80% local content. At first, though, the factory will assemble about 24,000 cars a year from imported parts.
