VOLUMNIA THE MEMORY OF THINGS Running until 17 February is “La memoria delle cose”, a solo show by painter Alfredo Casali curated by Massimo Ferrari in the former church of Sant’Agostino in Piacenza. Since 2018 the building has hosted Volumnia, an exhibition venue for art and innovative historical design by Enrica De Micheli. About a hundred works, comprising familiar landscapes, slates, faces, tables and houses, archetypes recurrent in works by the philosopher-mathematician-visual poet from Piacenza devoted to often monochrome pictorial-material expression, are enclosed in opaque black micro-architectures (made from panels by Saib). AUTEUR ARCHITECTURE TEXTURED BOX Atlas Concorde enriches the interiors of the Hôtel des Horlogers in Le Brassus, Switzerland, with evocations of stone. The structure, owned by the luxury watch brand Audemars Piguet, vaunts an architectural design by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and interior design by Aum Architects. The essential rigor of the rooms, designed to heighten the enjoyment of the outdoor landscape through large windows, as well as a fluid and immersive experience of the interiors, finds stoneware tiles inspired by natural materials an effective medium for defining the textured box. Stack arose from the encounter between the Friulian company Midj and two young emerging designers Enrico Martini and Dimitri Dall’Agnol. The chair is the perfect interpretation of the company motto “Design is a wonderful life”, which guides the research and development of new products in the R&D department of the Officina delle Idee. The chair’s onomatopoeic name is inspired by the noise produced by the simple system for assembling and dismantling the base with the seat, the fulcrum of the project, which makes it easy to ship and assemble. The two elements that compose the chair are joined without using screws, simply with a patented interlocking system. USM Haller, the infinitely combinable modular system, endlessly combinable thanks to an ingenious spherical joint – stylized in the Swiss brand’s logo – still defies time. Already added to the permanent collection of the MoMA, New York, the metal furniture program was created for the office but soon moved into home interiors as well, successfully adapting to new tastes, lifestyles, and changes in the ways we live and work. PRODUCTION Yaaz is a brand of outdoor products that grew out of the twenty years’ experience of the Adasan company in the creation of contract furniture, and which today operates under the creative direction of the AngelettiRuzza studio. Its name recalls the Turkish word yaz, summer, the season that ideally shines for most of the year on Adana, the city in southern Turkey where the company (headed by the brothers Burak, Onur and Gimez Suveren) has its headquarters and production center.
