Welcome to this 23rd edition! It is with real pleasure that I want to introduce to you this 2023 Summer edition of VERTDEVIN magazine. For this issue, we chose to taste some wines from Bordeaux, White Bourgogne, White Loire, Rosé Provence, Rhône, Languedoc, Campania, Umbria, Eastern Europe and the Prosecco area. VertdeVin: Why do you make wine? Did your parents already work in the vineyards? Frédéric Charvin: It's been a passion since I was 14. My parents did not work in the vineyards, the property belonged to my grandparents and my uncles. I took over from my uncles in 1989. It was undoubtedly them who transmitted this passion to me and today I am the fifth generation of the Domaine de Pignan. Château Mauvesin Barton in Moulis-en-Médoc is an estate with more than six centuries of history, a vast property with 125 ha of forest and 60 ha of vines. The Barton family, who acquired it in 2011, is one of the rare families in Bordeaux, who owned their estates – Châteaux Léoville Barton and Langoa Barton in Saint-Julien – before the classification of 1855 and still own them. Overlooking Argentario, the project of the young and beautiful German couple began in 2003 who, driven by their love of Italy and collectible wine, decided to set their sights on the Maremma, in Capalbio, in the province of Grosseto. Hailing from a small village near Munich, where the family has a long and successful history in the nursery business, they chose a hill-side yet seaside location to plant international grapes. From 16 ha they grew to 30 and finally to the current 50 or so hectares, organic since 2019. Schubert Winery is a high quality level winery in New Zealand, situated in the Wairarapa Valley. The domain was born out of Kai Schubert's passion for wine, erupted at a very young age. Drawn to good food from the age of 16, his first awesome pairing was with a pinot gris of Alsace. Then, Kai began taking classes, studying, and he realised, that wine could be his path instead of the photography - his other great passion which morph into a hobby.
