Each season, my sister picks a theme to live by. For instance, she’s decided this will be her summer of camping and is planning a series of outdoor excursions with her kids. I think this is a fantastic way to make a season feel memorable and get motivated to make your goals a reality. In this issue, we offer some ideas of how to theme your spring. Been “about to learn” the guitar for the past decade? Make this your spring of music! Feature Writer Rachel Needell has blazed the trail for you with a handful of apps that make it entirely possible to learn to play your favorite songs on the guitar without ever having to leave your house (page 40). Strava ($11.99/month) “If getting in shape was part of your New Year’s Resolution, Strava can help you stick to your guns and track your exercise progress. I’m probably missing some bells and whistles because I don’t have the paid version, but even the free version is nice for tracking times and personal records. I like that you can look for local groups and clubs to join for different activities, and you can participate in online challenges. You can connect your Apple Watch so all your workouts upload automatically. Last year, a close family member, I’ll call R, was diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s. Apple products have made life a little easier and safer for both of us. Never technically adept, R uses an older model iPhone to make and receive calls and enjoy the Lock Screen photos I create. Placing AirTags with R’s keys, wallet, and car allows us to find misplaced items, and for me to locate R on a map (she still drives in our small town). I also use the People option in the Find My app. It shows me where R is on a map and lets me receive notifications when R leaves or arrives at our house, the grocery store, or wherever. After noticing how R admired my new Apple Watch, I bought her…
Apple closed out its 2023 releases with the third generation M3 chip, refreshed MacBook Pro line, and the 24-inch iMac. The upgrades to these computers focused entirely on performance rather than design or special features, but the M3 chips bring big improvements to graphics processing and signifies a noteworthy boost to the iMac, which was last updated with the M1 chip. Here’s everything to know about Apple’s latest Mac release. MAKE WAY FOR M3 Apple is boasting more processing power for less battery life with the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips. Even compared to its direct predecessor, the M2, Apple is boasting a 1.8 times improvement on GPU (graphics processing unit) speeds and a 15 percent speed improvement for the CPU (central processing unit). This means it processes…
