Almost every day, I hear about a new AI breakthrough. It’s changing the way we research, write, and make decisions, from the artwork we put on our walls to the itineraries we create for summer vacation. And how does Apple fit into this new AI landscape? That is a very good question! While the release of Apple Intelligence last year brought interesting AI features like Writing Tools and Genmoji to the iPhone, the crown jewel was supposed to be a contextually aware Siri that could scan your phone for information to help deliver smarter answers to your every command. Reportedly, this feature was much harder to ship than Apple originally thought. At its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, instead of announcing a new release date, Apple exec Federighi barely acknowledged…
Mixbook Photo Book (from $14.99) Mixbook is hands-down the best online photo book service I’ve come across. With beautiful layouts, intuitive and easy-to-use software, and high-quality printing materials, you can create personalized photo books to remember your travel adventures, highlights of the year, key life events, and loved ones. You can even showcase favorite family recipes by making a cookbook! -Ashleigh Page, Associate Editor Canva (Free) I just started using Canva, and I love it so much! There are a variety of ways to use this awesome app (and I’m still learning), but so far I’ve created posts for social media featuring my creative writing or quotes from my favorite books. -Rheanne Taylor, Video Production Manager We Are Rewind Cassette Player ($159) I’m the type of music nerd that…
BABY PICTURES Parents Share an Average of 1,500 Pictures of Their Kids in the First Five Years of Their Lives “Sharenting” is the new term to describe people who regularly share about their kids online. It can seem harmless but can pose security risks, especially as AI scrapes the internet for more and more data that can be used for nefarious purposes. By some estimates, the average parent shares 1,500 pictures of their child by the time that child turns five. If that seems excessive, think of it this way: five years is over 1,800 days, so that comes out to less than one photo per day. It adds up quickly, so post mindfully! CHECKMATE! Growing up with illegible handwriting and marginal typing skills, I welcomed the age of personal computing in which I took an active part. As a geeky baby boomer, open to and excited about new possibilities, it has been great fun. In 1981, as a software engineer at Hewlett-Packard, I helped write built-in apps for HP’s first personal computer, the HP150 Touchscreen. I loved having the power of a computer on my desk and was thrilled to learn that the HP calculator division was developing the first PC-compatible (9 pound) laptop. I resonated with the possibility of taking a powerful computer anywhere and soon became one of the first people using laptops at airports. In late 1984, I brought that HP laptop with me to small-town Fairfield, Iowa, to live and…

I recently decided to upgrade my phone and struggled Ito make a decision, weighing the pros and cons of different iPhones and even considering switching to a non-Apple device. I don’t always need the flashiest device, but I did want my new phone to have more storage, a better camera, and faster processing speed than my old phone. I chose the 16e after doing a lot of research, partially because even with the lower cost, the storage starts at 128 GB which is much higher than my previous iPhone 11 with 64 GB. Now I don’t have to worry about deleting apps, photos, or offloading files to the cloud constantly to free up space. I am a little disappointed in the colors available, because none of them are particularly vibrant or…
