While the archetypal motorhomer is probably still over 50 and retired or semi-retired, post-Covid I’ve been delighted to see more families enjoying campervans and motorhomes and hear dealers talk of a wider spectrum of buyers. It’s not been lost on manufacturers, either. When Bürstner launched its new Campeo TD range last summer I was surprised to see that one of the first layouts to appear was a bunk bed model that seemed perfect for a family. Then, at the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf, I spotted Dethleffs’ aptly named XL Family, which really is XL in size and couldn’t be more family-orientated if it came with child seats pre-attached to the Isofix and a bucket and spade in the garage. Both were highly commended in the Out & About Live Motorhome Awards…
Bailey’s Ford-based Adamo motorhome range is set to grow with the arrival of new longer models, called Adamo XL, all of which are just over 8m long and based on a heavier 4,250kg chassis. Based on the Transit chassis, the newcomers have the 165hp engine and eight-speed automatic transmission as standard and are priced from £83,999. The increased gross weight (compared with the existing Adamo models) allows for greater payloads of up to 971kg, but means you’ll need a C1 category on your driving licence. There are three layouts in the Adamo XL range, each offering more spacious lounges, up to 50% more worktop space in the kitchen and an electric drop-down bed above the front seating area. In the DL model there are actually two drop-down beds. The three…
Following the launch of the Xperience Edition spec on the ML-T low-profile motorhomes, Hymer has launched a similar special edition version of its Grand Canyon S campervan. Hymer says it is aimed at those campervanners who don’t only want to travel during the summer months. The new model has winterised features included as standard and comes in Tenorite Grey Metallic paint with Xperience graphics. Inside, there are two style collections: Ivy Green, with felt accents, and Pearl Grey, with an oak finish. The new Hymer campervan comes with a range of standard features, such as a 5G WiFi router with roof-mounted antenna to provide high levels of connectivity on the road. Even when travelling outside Europe, the dual SIM gives flexibility, so buyers can switch between two providers. Other features…
Milldown Campers, a specialist in campervan conversions on Japanese imports such as the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire and Nissan Elgrand, unveiled its latest model at the January Motorhome & Campervan Sale at Stoneleigh. Believed to be the first-ever UK-built camper conversion based on the third generation (AH 30) Toyota Alphard, the Milldown camper was priced at £48,250 for a brand-new conversion built on a 2016 base vehicle. The newly imported Alphard has a 2.5-litre petrol engine driving the front wheels through a CVT (constantly variable transmission) automatic gearbox. The Series 3 Alphard is slightly longer and wider than the earlier models which are more usually seen as campervans in the UK as, at over 10 years old, they circumvent normal Type Approval requirements. Milldown put the newer car – the Alphard…
THE Campeo TD made its public debut at the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf last September, with a UK appearance a little over a month later. It’s a brand-new line-up of low-profile motorhomes that replaces the Delfin and Limited in what Bürstner calls the “lower mainstream segment” and it sits below the best selling Lyseo Harmony Line. Unusually for its price point, it has a technical double floor, and, perhaps even more unusually, one of the first layouts to be released is one aimed at families. One of five models so far announced, the Campeo TD 676 G is a fairly modest 6.71m long and, like the rest of the range, it’s designed to be a 3.5-tonne motorhome (although upgrades are available if required – to 3,650kg, or 4,400kg with the 180hp…
IF you aspire to own a campervan to drive every day, then the chances are that you’ll be thinking about a VW Transporter. We’re yet to see conversions on the new T7 but when they do appear they’re likely to cost considerably more than the £56,695 of this Cambridge Campervans conversion on a 24-plate van with just delivery mileage. Of course, it’s the lilac bodywork that stands out here and you’ll either love or hate it, but the rest is much more down to earth, starting with the 110hp Startline base vehicle with the added Business Pack, so it’s not too Bob-the-Builder basic. There are even heated seats and a reversing camera (both extras), while the 20in wheels (too big?), Leighton Vans front bodykit and side bars complete a visual…
